A Manufacturing training provider has achieved a successful academic year in 2020, regardless of restrictions around COVID-19. Yorkshire based Appris supplied 150 apprentices into manufacturing roles from July 2019 - August 2020, marking them as a leader in the region for engineering.

2020 saw Appris supply many skilled apprentices to companies in Yorkshire, on top of supporting the sector further by taking on three new employees themselves. The organisation experienced a massive growth of 30% allowing them to take on two new advisors and one new engineering tutor.

As a result of another nearby training provider, KITS, shutting down due to COVID-19 challenges, Appris took on a significant number of apprentices which contributed to the 150 apprentices they supplied to the sector in 2020. The vast majority of apprentices are set to carry out a four-year apprenticeship with their respected companies.

“There is a massive skills shortage in the UK and companies that acquire apprentices are massively contributing to filling that gap. Young people are vital for the future of manufacturing, to help encourage them to get roles in the sector, Appris supports regular career panels and recruitment days in schools and colleges.’ Dean Coleman Walker, Business Development Director at Appris, explained.

“We want them to understand the benefits of working as an apprentice and that engineering and manufacturing is a career that comes with vast skills and knowledge development, which can lead to further progress in life.”

In 2021 Appris aspirations are to continue the work they are doing whilst continuing to grow the number of apprentices they supply to companies in need. They are planning to augment existing services in the Kirklees and Calderdale district, for example, future-proofing the organisation.
